Pore Some Sugar On Me!

Have you hopped on the turmeric in your DIY skin care regimen? Has it left you feeling a little – yellow? Well here’s a quick alternative to using the nutrient rich “dye” that will leave you feeling all mellow, without the yellow.

What:

Why:

Because the hustle and bustle of daily life will leave your pores clogged and your skin yearning for exfoliation. Turmeric is packed with antioxidants and is a skin brightener (especially helpful for uneven spots). Sugar is a humectant so it locks in needed moisture while serving as a gentle exfoliant. Extra virgin olive oil packs a one two punch as it contains Vitamins A and E which are great for your skin and also serves as a moisturizer.

How:

Mix equal parts brown sugar and turmeric in a non metal bowl. I used two table spoons of each. Add the olive oil slowly, a bit at a time, until all of the ingredients have formed a paste. There’s your homemade exfoliant!

I find applying it in the shower makes for easy clean up. I start my warm shower, dampen a washrag, then apply the warm washrag to my face. I leave on for about a minute or so to get my pores nice and opened. Then I gently apply my turmeric / sugar / olive oil scrub on my face in a circular motion, careful to avoid the eyes. I leave on for a bit (go ahead and you know – actually shower!) and then I carefully wash off with my eyes closed. Lastly, I follow up with my face soap to ensure none of the scrub is left behind.

After my shower I spray my bathtub with my usual bathroom cleaner to remove any stains. Be sure to follow up with your usual moisturizer. Happy exfoliating!
